On February 24, 2025, a delegation from Kirkuk University, headed by Prof. Dr. Omar Najm al-Din Enja, Dean of the College of Arts, and accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Shukur Mohammad, Director of the University's Quality Assurance Department, and Asst. Prof. Zaidon Khalaf Mahmoud, attended a workshop held at the Presidency of Al-Anbar University. The workshop, organized in coordination with the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, gathered representatives from both public and private universities to discuss the methodologies of the QS World University Rankings.
During his intervention at the workshop, the dean emphasized the importance of the QS ranking for enhancing the global reputation of Iraqi universities. He highlighted the need to reconsider university strategies to align with international standards and requirements. This alignment would contribute to better community service through international partnerships and academic cooperation among global scholars, enabling the production of high-quality scientific research, increasing citation rates, and attracting international faculty and students. Additionally, he stressed the significance of following up with graduates, ensuring employment, improving university websites, and enhancing the quality of news dissemination.
The workshop was presented by Rami Mohamed Awad, the Regional Director for QS Rankings in the Middle East and Africa. He covered the mechanisms and requirements of the QS ranking, as well as the criteria used by global universities to improve their academic standings.
