On February 23, 2025, the Dean of the College of Arts at Kirkuk University, Prof. Dr. Omar Najm al-Din Enja, participated in an integrated international scientific seminar titled "Fortifying Minds, Protecting the Future: Combating Drugs in Our Educational Environment."
During the seminar, the dean delivered a speech highlighting that drugs are a significant issue affecting both our environment and our governments. He explained that this issue is part of the national strategy of the Iraqi government, which has committed institutions to educating students about this dangerous epidemic and the widespread disease in societies.
He emphasized the necessity of putting an end to drug use and minimizing its consumption, asserting that educational institutions must play a prominent role in this regard. The dean also stressed that drugs are forbidden substances that disrupt the mind and drive users to commit heinous crimes in society.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the Iraqi legislature has not neglected this matter, having enacted laws against anyone involved with drugs, particularly the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, which aims to prevent the handling of these harmful substances.
