Assistant Dean of the College of Science for Scientific Affairs / University of Kirkuk examines a master's thesis

Based on the Scientific Cooperation Exchange between the faculties of the University of Kirkuk, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Omar Mohamed, Assistant Dean of the College of Science for Scientific Affairs, has been elected as a member and supervisor in the master's thesis discussion committee. The thesis is "The Extraction and evaluation of the effectiveness of ketosan as an insecticide in the life of the saw grain beetle Oryzaephilus surinamensis L." by Asmaa Mahmoud Jamal at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Kirkuk.

The thesis dealt with the extraction of chitin and its modification to ketosan using known chemical methods. It evaluates its effect as an insecticide against the Oryzaephilus surinamensis, due to its low cost, ease of use and environmental friendliness as an alternative to carcinogenic and mutagenic chemical pesticides.  The research is important because it develops biological pest control methods, especially considering the current environmental challenges said the supervisor. The study points out that the use of ketosan as a natural insecticide is an important step towards reducing the dependence on traditional chemical pesticides contributing significantly to preserving the environment and human health.

He added that the study was well received by the discussion committee approving it upon following the feedback of the committee, and granting the student a master's degree in biology with a grade of excellence.
