About College of Nursing

Since its establishment, the College of Nursing has enjoyed a distinguished scientific reputation within the University of Kirkuk. In general, the college dedicates its human, material, and financial capabilities to maintain the highest scientific level, as it provides a broad study and research program within the specialties of its scientific branches to provide opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Each year, many original scientific researches are completed at the undergraduate level. The college also provides the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences by providing practical and theoretical lessons as well as scientific research, as the subjects studied during the academic years qualify graduates to work in health institutions wherever the need for them arises in the fields of work. The number of new students admitted to the college has increased over the previous years. The College of Nursing is located in Kirkuk City / Granada Neighborhood / Alley (425). It is one of the colleges of the University of Kirkuk, established on July 23, 2002. It was affiliated with the Presidency of the University of Mosul, then it was separated and became affiliated with the University of Kirkuk after its creation on January 17, 2003, due to an urgent need in the province for this professional and humanitarian specialty. The college includes five scientific branches (Branch of Basic Sciences, Branch of Fundamentals of Nursing, Branch of Adult Nursing, Branch of Maternal and Neonatal Health Nursing, and Branch of Community Health Nursing)

The duration of study in the college is four years under a semester system. The graduated student is awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences, which authorizes them to enter and work in state health institutions and the private health sector. Students are admitted to the college from graduates of preparatory school (Scientific Branch), the top graduates from the Technical Institute / Nursing Department, and the first among the graduates of Nursing Preparatory Schools, according to the central admission system followed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The health institutions in the province are supplied with the graduates of our college in order to enhance the performance and work of those institutions, noting that the recruitment is central for graduates by the Ministry of Health

Evening studies were established in the college in the academic year 2012-2013, and Master’s studies were established in the college for the academic year 2020-2021 in Nursing Sciences. The number of faculty members is (53) in various clinical and basic nursing specialties and supporting sciences. The number of students reached (564) male and female students in the morning study and (863) male and female students in the evening study for the academic year 2024-2025. The college’s philosophy is based on three basic pillars: Education, Scientific Research, and Community Service.
