An Overview of the Department and its Importance:
The establishment of the Department of Political Science dates back to 2012, and it is one of the departments of the College of Law and Political Science affiliated with the Presidency of the University of Kirkuk. Its importance lies in preparing studies and research in political science to address the problems facing society and the state and find appropriate solutions to them through developing and teaching political concepts and preserving human rights. Public freedoms and consolidating society’s participation in power in democratic ways through free and fair elections, especially after the political development that took place in Iraq after 2003, which changed the form of states and the system of government, in addition to helping the governorate absorb a large number of graduate students.

Teaching the principles of political science and knowledge, their origins, present and future; Its philosophy, theories, applications and research.

Spreading political culture and graduating specialized competencies capable of addressing society’s problems through many channels.
Objectives :
1- Contributing to the growth and development of society through cooperation with the federal government and local governments by preparing research and providing consultations to them.
2- Preparing qualified people to delve deeply into the study of political science, equipped with the method of scientific thinking and the ability to do academic research and investigate scientific truth in the field of political thinking, political systems, international relations, and international politics.
3- Providing specialists to institutions and state bodies in the field of political science, especially the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Higher Education, independent bodies, and national, regional and international organizations.
4- Numbers of people interested in topics related to human rights, public freedoms, and democracy, and the necessary duty to take to protect and develop them... because they are the foundation of every civilized society.
5- Encouraging scientific research in the fields of political studies to help society and the state overcome difficult stages.
6- Strengthening cooperation prospects with ministries, institutions, local state bodies, civil society organizations, and regional and international organizations.
