Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, President of the University of Kirkuk, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law and Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Murad Saeb Mahmoud, and in the presence of the college’s teaching and administrative staff, the Continuing Education Division, in cooperation with the Department of Political Science at the college, held a scientific symposium entitled: Climate Change and its Impact on the Social and Political Reality in Iraq This will take place in Hammurabi Hall on the morning of Wednesday, January 13, 2024.
The scientific symposium, which was held under the chairmanship of Assistant Professor Hello Muhammad Saleh, discussed the negative effects of climate change on society from the social and political aspects in Iraq, as the increase in industrial human activity and its use of energy means has led to a significant increase in temperatures, global warming, lack of drinking water, and water insecurity. Food shortages, the lack of tree planting, and weak development plans. In addition, wars are a direct cause of political instability and the spread of poverty, leading to the migration and displacement of many people and the weak provision of basic services such as health, education, and water.
The symposium recommended increasing the dissemination of political awareness and the government’s work to reduce the poverty rate, spread environmental awareness among citizens, rely on clean energy sources such as electricity and solar energy, and reduce reliance on energy sources that lead to air pollution, with the need to legislate laws that include imposing penalties against those who cut down trees.
