Kirkuk is one of Iraq's oldest governorates, located about 236 kilometers north of the capital, Baghdad. Kirkuk is marked by historical landmarks like as the Kirkuk Castle and Qishla of Kirkuk, as well as its economic importance, since it is rich in oil and gas resources and fertile agricultural regions.

The College of Engineering at the University of Kirkuk was established in the year 2005 AD, as the city's first engineering college. Petroleum engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and chemical engineeringare the college's five departments. The college contributes with the expertise of its teaching functionaries in training and developing personnel working in state institutions in its various sectors, as well as providing engineering consultations to them and its graduates in supplying engineering cadres capable of keeping up with work and development in the fields of engineering and technology to state departments and companies operating in Iraq.

In developing the college's personnel, curricula, and scientific laboratories with laboratory equipment and advanced applied engineering computer programs, creating graduate studies and research and administrative units, and enhancing the academic and research role of its teac, the College of Engineering has strategic plans that are compatible with the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and international standards.
