Scientific symposium on (the role of educational institutions in combating harassment and enhancing cultural and social awareness)
Under the patronage of the Honorable President of the University, Professor Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and the supervision of the Honorable Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Kirkuk, Professor Dr. Celnik Akram.
And Mr. Mrs. Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Omar Najm Al-Din Anjah, in cooperation between the College of Arts and the College of Engineering, Division of Continuing Education, and in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Unit, a scientific symposium entitled (The Role of Educational Institutions in Combating Harassment and Promoting Cultural and Social Awareness) on Sunday, 12/17/2023.
The symposium was opened by the symposium rapporteur, M. Saba Fadel Ahmed, standing for a minute and reciting Surat Al-Fatihah for the souls of all the martyrs of Iraq, and after welcoming the attending professors, including the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Celnik Akram Omar, and a large number of employees and students. The first lecture was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Omar Najm Al-Din Angah, about harassment and reducing it from a religious, legal, and administrative perspective.
The second lecturer, M.D., addressed Nourjan Adel Mahmoud, the phenomenon of sexual harassment from a psychological perspective, ways to correct it, and how to rehabilitate the person exposed to harassment to lead a normal life in society. The third lecturer, M.D., gave a speech. Youssef Salam Saeed shed light on sexual harassment and ways to confront it as he divided the presentation into three stages, the introduction stage about sexual harassment and summarizing the definition of harassment and explaining its most important manifestations, while the final stage dealt with ways to confront sexual harassment.
After enhancing the symposium by answering the questions and intervention of the attendees, the symposium ended by writing a set of recommendations to be submitted to the university presidency, which in turn sends it to the ministry.
Based on the scientific symposium on the role of educational institutions in combating harassment, several recommendations were presented, including:
1. Strengthening awareness programs: directing continuous efforts towards enhancing cultural and social awareness about the problem of harassment within educational institutions.
2. Training employees and students: Providing periodic training courses for employees and students on how to deal with harassment cases and how to effectively intervene.
3. Holding workshops: Organizing regular workshops to stimulate interaction and discussion on harassment issues and effective ways to prevent it.
4. Strengthening cooperation between colleges: Strengthening cooperation between different colleges, such as the College of Arts and the College of Engineering, to maximize efforts in the field of combating harassment.
5. Holding dialogue sessions: Organizing periodic dialogue sessions to encourage open dialogue about the problem of harassment and how to improve the response of educational institutions.
6. Strengthening the role of the women’s unit: Supporting and strengthening the role of women’s empowerment units within educational institutions to ensure the achievement of the goals of equality and protection.
7. Follow-up and evaluation: Establishing effective mechanisms to follow-up and evaluate the implementation of these recommendations, with a focus on continuous improvement and development.
