The lecturer in the Department of History, Asst. Dr. Hadeel Saadoun Abdul Sahib, participated in the Fourth International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences, which was held by the International Federation of Historians in cooperation with the Middle Euphrates Technical University and under the slogan (The Role of Humanities in Building a More Balanced and Developing Future) with her research entitled [Abu al-Abbas ibn al-Rumiyya (d. 561-637 / 1165-1239) and his Scientific and Intellectual Contributions] on 7/29-30/2024.
The research dealt with the personality of Abu al-Abbas Ibn al-Rumiyya, his biography, scientific and cultural background, his important role in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, his interest in botany and medicinal herbs, his travels that he took to the Maghreb and the Levant, from which he came out with a book called (The Journey), and his meeting with a large number of scholars from the Levant, such as the famous historian Ibn al-Athir al-Jazari (d. 630/1233), the physician and historian Ibn al-Qifti (d. 646/1248), and the scholar Ibn Nuqta (d. 629/1231). The research also presented the necessity of introducing generations to the importance of scientific figures from Arabs and Muslims and their scientific and cognitive contributions, such as Ibn al-Rumiyya, who comes in the second place after Dioscorides, the famous Greek physician, according to those who translated him.
