A lecturer from the College of Education for Humanities participates in the discussion of a doctoral thesis

The lecturer in the Department of Kurdish Language, Prof. Dr. Azad Amin Baghwan, participated in the discussion of the doctoral thesis entitled (The Impact of English Language Teaching on Mother Tongue Learning in Non-Governmental Schools in Erbil) by the researcher Rizgar Ismail Karim on 07/06/2024 at the University of Salahaddin, College of Languages.

The researcher reviewed the impact of English language teaching on mother tongue learning in non-governmental schools in Erbil, and explained that the widespread use of English is a result of technological progress that has affected education, as English has become the primary language of instruction, which has led to a decline in the use of the mother tongue. Through questionnaires directed to students, teachers, and parents, the study sheds light on the negative effects of teaching English on students' mother tongue skills. These results are discussed through a theoretical and practical framework that includes five sections covering language acquisition, language globalization, and language policies, with a focus on bilingual education and its effects.
