Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education for Human Sciences, Professor Dr. Farhad Aziz Mohieddin, and under the supervision of the Head of the Turkish Language Department, the department held a scientific symposium in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division, entitled (The Art of Calligraphy in Turkish Literature), delivered by M.M. Dunya Nawzad Abdel Majeed.
The lecture dealt with an overview of the history of the types of Arabic calligraphy, as well as the interest of the Ottoman sultans and their great appreciation for Arabic calligraphy by directing artists and calligraphers to work in the Ottoman courts, mosques and schools. The sultans at that time were encouraged to establish schools and centers to teach this fine art, and in the end the art of calligraphy still maintains its position. In Arab, Turkish and Islamic culture, it is considered an embodiment of traditions, beauty and national pride among peoples, and its development reflects the levels of interest of these peoples in arts, culture and enriching civilization.
