A master's thesis discusses the spatial suitability of urban expansion.

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education for the Humanities, Professor Dr. Farhad Aziz Mohiuddin, a master's thesis entitled "Spatial Suitability for Urban Expansion in the City of Daquq" by student Jassim Mohammed Awad was discussed in the college hall on February 18, 2025.

The study addressed the spatial analysis of the city's urban expansion, its significant impact on the surrounding areas, and the relationship between this relationship and the process of urban and population development in the city, as well as the repercussions of this development on the city's urban environment. The study adopted an applied approach that achieves technical integration in studying the spatial suitability of Daquq's expansion in light of its relationship with the city's natural and human determinants. It also identified areas suitable for urban expansion and sprawl, the most prominent obstacles facing them in the future, and proposed solutions to address them. After examining the applied and descriptive phases of the various aspects of the study, a clear truth emerged in the spatial analysis methodology and the matching process by assigning weights to the factors influencing the city's expansion. This methodology played a prominent role in the interactive relationship between Daquq's urban growth and its natural and human characteristics, and subsequently the city's future expansion into more suitable areas. The study focused on several findings that indicate a clear relationship between the nature of urban expansion in Daquq and the city's natural and human determinants.
