Master’s Thesis Defense at the College of Arts on the Social and Cultural Role of Women in Kirkuk

On March 3, 2025, a master’s thesis defense took place at the College of Arts, University of Kirkuk, for the student Shaima Hassan Rashid, titled "The Social and Cultural Role of Women in Kirkuk from 1946 to 1979."

The thesis aimed to explain the transformations that took place in Iraq during that period, from both social and cultural perspectives, and how these changes directly impacted the role of women in public life. This occurred amid Iraq's aspiration for modernization and its openness to global intellectual and literary trends.

The thesis concluded that after many years of wars and unrest, many Middle Eastern countries, particularly Iraq, began to open up to new political and cultural ideologies. Some social and political circumstances helped create cultural outlets that promoted modern social, literary, and artistic movements. These outlets played a significant role in introducing the public to the new values that emerged globally during that period.
