Dean of the College of Arts Participates in International Workshop on the Art of Speed Reading and Smart Analysis

The Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Omer Najmuddin Inja, participated in an international training workshop titled "Read Smartly: The Art of Speed Reading and Smart Analysis using NotebookLM."

During the workshop, the Dean delivered a lecture entitled "Smart Reading Skills and Their Importance in Educational Institutions," in which he emphasized that smart reading is a conscious skill based on strategies for analyzing texts with speed, insight, and high awareness. He stated that its primary importance lies in enhancing academic comprehension, developing critical thinking, and supporting continuous self-learning.

He noted that smart reading skills include scanning, by searching for specific information within a text without reading it in its entirety, as well as exploratory reading, which involves reviewing headings and indexes to form a general overview. Furthermore, it encompasses analysis and criticism, which involves evaluating evidence and ideas and comparing them with prior knowledge.

The Dean also highlighted the importance of inference and prediction through drawing conclusions and anticipating what follows in a text. He explained its significance in educational institutions for boosting academic achievement, helping students grasp dense curricula in less time and with less effort.

He further pointed out that Iraqi legislation and laws emphasize interest in science and knowledge, as well as the importance of self-learning. These skills enable learners to explore various sciences and develop linguistic proficiency, which enriches vocabulary and keeps pace with the digital age, facilitating the management of the massive amounts of information available in modern digital libraries.
