On February 18, 2025, the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, through the Continuing Education Department in collaboration with the Department of Applied Geography and the Technology Incubator and Ecosystem Unit, organized a practical seminar titled "Smart Cities and the Requirements of the Digital Age."
The seminar featured lectures delivered by Assistant Lecturer Yasin Majid and Assistant Lecturer Saif Adel Saleh, with the session being chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Noah Mahmood.
The discussion included a detailed explanation of the importance of encouraging investment in areas such as renewable energy, water management, waste recycling, and linking these sectors with smart management techniques to establish smart cities. The seminar emphasized integrating the concept of smart cities or smart neighborhoods during urban planning processes to preserve agricultural land.
The aim of the seminar was to highlight the importance of establishing a clear urban policy to address urban challenges, particularly the organization of road networks and the separation of residential areas from industrial zones, administrative institutions, and business centers, similar to practices in developed countries. Additionally, it focused on implementing smart water and energy management systems in cities, especially given the constant need for water and cooling systems, particularly in the summer months.
