On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk held a scientific symposium titled "Minorities in Kirkuk: The Future of Community Identities and Heritage."
The symposium discussed the topic of minorities in Kirkuk Province, including the Yazidis and the Fayli Kurds. Dr. Mustafa Mohsen Mohammed, Associate Professor and Head of the History Department, spoke about the most important agricultural villages in Kirkuk before Christ, including Nuzi, as well as the name of Kirkuk before Christ, which was known as (Arrapha).
Additionally, in a lecture delivered by Professor Salahaddin Araibi, the presence of Fayli Kurds in the province was discussed, focusing on their customs, traditions, dialect, cultural heritage, and the mutual influence between them and the surrounding geographical area.
