Faculty of Arts Hosts Symposium on Addressing the Phenomenon of Suicide

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Kirkuk organized a scientific symposium titled "The Phenomenon of Suicide and its Impact on Individuals and Society: Motives and Prevention Methods."

The symposium featured a presentation on the latest global reports regarding suicide, which indicate that more than half of the individuals who commit suicide worldwide are under the age of 45. The reports also identified hanging, firearms, and the ingestion of toxic substances as the most common methods used.

The symposium aimed to highlight the urgent need for developing effective remedies and strategic plans through cooperation between various governmental and non-governmental institutions to eradicate this phenomenon. The discussions identified several key drivers behind suicide, including psychological factors such as depression; social factors such as isolation and harsh living conditions; and economic hardships. Additionally, the symposium noted the role of declining religious and moral deterrents in certain cases.
