College of Arts Holds Seminar on Combating Violence Against Women

The College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk organized an educational seminar titled "Utilizing the Role of English Language and Literature as a Platform for Literary and Critical Analysis to Combat Violence Against Women."

In a lecture delivered during the seminar, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Omer Najmuddin Inja, noted that many countries implement policies and laws to fight violence against women. These measures involve expanding care, awareness, and prevention programs, as well as strengthening health, legal, and social services centered on survivors of violence.

He emphasized that femicide does not occur in isolation; rather, it is often an extension of a continuous cycle of violence that begins with controlling behaviors, threats, and harassment, including online abuse. He explained that preventing these crimes requires the application of laws that recognize how violence manifests in the lives of women and girls, both online and offline, and hold perpetrators accountable before such actions escalate into murder.

The seminar also included a lecture by faculty member Luwaiza Salah Habib titled "Cross-Cultural Anti-Violence and the Role of Translation in Shaping Social Awareness." Furthermore, faculty member Omar Mustafa Ahmed presented a lecture titled "Critical Discourse Analysis Models in the Representation of Violence Against Women in English Novels and Drama."
