Under the patronage of the Honorable President of the University of Kirkuk, Professor Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and the supervision of the Honorable Dean of the College of Education for Girls, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Ahmed Al-Jubouri, and within the activities of the Division of Continuing Education in the College of Education for Girls, the Division of Continuing Education, in coordination with the Department of History, held a discussion panel on the emergence of nation-states in Europe, which was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Abboud Abdullah, Rapporteur of the Department of History, The beginning of the modern era witnessed the emergence of new political entities and steps towards integration between existing entities, which played an important role in the political, economic and social life on the European continent. The European peoples adopted the principle of nationalism and considered it a goal and objective towards building the nation-state on the basis of the philosophy of the nation, which is based on the sharing of its people by the bonds of language, history, and common feeling. The emergence of the nation-state was a force that confronted and struggled with the feudal system and the church, to the extent that it became an alternative to them and constituted a manifestation of the crystallization of the nationalist idea among the European peoples. These manifestations took on the revival of the Renaissance era and the establishment of European empires, and the state and political entity became composed of many nationalities subject to the sovereignty of one state.55
