Master's Thesis at the University of Kirkuk Examines the Efficacy of Soil-Derived Fungal Isolates in Nanoparticle Synthesis Against Microbial Pathogens

The College of Education for Pure Science at the University of Kirkuk discussed a Master’s thesis titled:

"Evaluation of the Efficacy of Several Fungal Isolates Isolated from Soils in Kirkuk City in the Production of Certain Nanoparticles Against Selected Fungal and Bacterial Pathogens."

The study, presented by the researcher Tariq Awwad Hamaw, aimed to isolate and identify fungi from soils across Kirkuk city and evaluate their capacity to produce zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs). A total of 32 fungal isolates were obtained, 9 of which demonstrated the potential for nanoparticle biosynthesis. Three isolates were selected for production; the resulting nanoparticles exhibited inhibitory activity against selected bacteria and fungi, with the highest efficacy observed at a concentration of 100 mmol/L. These findings substantiate the viability of fungi in the green synthesis of nanoparticles.
