On 10/22/2024, the College of Education for Humanities witnessed a scientific symposium held by the Continuing Education Division and sponsored by the Dean, Professor Dr. Farhad Aziz Mohiuddin.
The symposium touched on many important topics, starting with analyzing the nature of extremist ideas and how they spread through social media, then moving on to discussing the role of these sites in spreading hate speech and recruiting extremists. The lecturer, Dr. Shihab Ahmed Salman, representative of the Directorate of Combating Intellectual Terrorism, presented in-depth analyses of the mechanisms of extremist groups in exploiting these platforms, and how they target vulnerable and affected groups. The symposium was not limited to stating the problem only, but also addressed the proposed solutions to combat this challenge.
His Excellency the Dean expressed the need to spread awareness about the dangers of extremist ideas, and develop effective control mechanisms, in addition to pointing out the importance of promoting moderate and centrist discourse, and confronting extremist ideas with logical arguments and correct information.
