College of Education for Humanities Participates in an International Geography Conference

The two lecturers from the Department of Geography, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shalash Khalaf and Dr. Nazir Ahmed Hilal, participated in the twenty-first international conference held by the University of Duhok in Geography with their research entitled (Quality of Urban Residential Life in the City of Hawija). The conference was held under the slogan (Sustainable Vision and Artificial Intelligence for a Geographical Future in the Service of the Environment and Society) on 7/30/2024, in the Cultural Center Hall at the University of Duhok.

The research dealt with the interaction in the city between the different urban land uses to meet the requirements of the population in order to satisfy their desires, and these uses are proportional to the number of residents in any city in the world, in line with the speed of their growth and the plans drawn up for that. Therefore, the study focused on residential use in the city of Hawija to find out whether this use meets the aspirations of the city's residents or not.

 The study, whose data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to residential neighborhoods according to the number of families in each neighborhood at a rate of 5% of families, with (500 questionnaires), showed that the study sample showed that home ownership was (283 homes) owned by their owners. As for the condition of the home, the highest percentage was for the medium type (290 homes). As for the homes that contain two bedrooms, they were the dominant ones, reaching (256 homes), while there were (425 homes) built of block material from the study sample. As for the suitability of the home for housing or not, it was (350 housing units were suitable).
