Professor Dr. Sami Shihab Ahmed, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Humanities, won the State Prize for Iraqi Creativity (short list) for the year 2024 in the field of linguistic criticism. This honor came in recognition of his distinguished scientific contributions in the field of linguistics, through his book entitled "Theories of Pragmatics and Discourse Formation." This book is a qualitative addition to the academic library, as it sheds light on four modern linguistic theories of great importance, namely: the theory of speech acts, Grice's dialogical theory, the theory of argumentation, and the theory of relevance. In this context, the book addressed the mechanisms of these theories and their impact on the formation of discourse, reflecting a deep vision that combines theoretical analysis and practical application. The State Prize for Iraqi Creativity, which is organized annually by the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, is one of the highest cultural awards in the country. It aims to honor creators in various fields, including literature, criticism, arts, sculpture, and tourism.
The Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Farhad Aziz Mohiuddin, praised this achievement, which is a source of pride for the college and the university, and expressed his pride in the distinguished academic efforts made by Dr. Sami, which enhance the college's position in the field of humanities.
