Participation of the Editor-in-Chief of Arabkha Journal in the First International Conference of Editorial Boards of Iraqi Scientific Journals

The Editor-in-Chief of Arabkha Journal for Historical, Archaeological, and Anthropological Studies participated in the activities of the First International Conference of Editorial Boards of Iraqi Scientific Journals, held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the University of Technology in Baghdad. The event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with a wide participation of editors-in-chief and members of editorial boards of Iraqi journals, as well as a number of researchers and academics from local and international universities and scientific institutions.

The conference opened with a keynote speech by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in which he affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting Iraqi scientific journals and developing their operational mechanisms to keep pace with global standards of publishing and indexing. He also praised the role of editorial boards in raising the quality of scientific research and serving the academic community.

The sessions of the conference addressed a number of fundamental issues concerning the current state of scientific journals in Iraq. These included ways to advance publishing standards, mechanisms to improve the quality of submitted research, strengthening indexing and accreditation procedures in global databases, and highlighting the challenges faced by editorial boards in light of the rapid developments in academic publishing.

The Editor-in-Chief of Arabkha emphasized the importance of this conference as a platform for exchanging experiences and successful practices among editorial boards. He stressed the need for joint efforts to enhance the scientific and research standards of Iraqi journals and ensure their ability to compete in the regional and international academic arena.

He also noted that the participation of Arabkha reflects its continuous commitment to adopting global publishing standards and enhancing its status among peer-reviewed journals through openness to international experiences and benefiting from modern practices in editing and indexing.

The conference concluded with recommendations aimed at supporting Iraqi journals and developing their institutional structures, thereby contributing to improving their ranking and accreditation in global databases and strengthening their role in serving scientific research and human knowledge.
