Discussion of a Master's Thesis by an Employee at the College of Arts

The master's thesis of Badi’a Naamaq Taqi Ali, an employee at the College of Arts, University of Kirkuk, was discussed at the College of Education for Humanities. Her thesis is entitled "The Meaning and Function of Syntactic Structures in the Verses Containing the Word (Ghafara) and Its Derivatives in the Holy Qur’an."

The thesis explored the meaning of syntactic structures that include the word or root (Ghafara) in the Qur’an, whether in nominal or verbal sentences, examining all forms and patterns of these sentences and the variation in subject and predicate. The researcher employed a method of alternating positions between the subject and predicate within the sentence.

The thesis concluded that meanings and implications vary with different structures and that the functions also differ according to the forms. It found that sentences are interconnected units that work together to form a coherent text and to convey the intended message from the speaker to the listener.
