A master's thesis entitled "Evaluating the Effect of Fumaria parviflora Extract on Certain Histological and Physiological Complications Induced by Diabetes in Male Rats" was discussed at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Kirkuk.
The study, presented by researcher Alaa Ali Mahmoud, aimed to evaluate the protective potential of the alcoholic extract of Fumaria parviflora in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The experiment included 35 rats distributed across seven groups, treated with insulin, vitamin E, and the plant extract, administered either individually or in combination.
The results demonstrated that induced diabetes led to elevated levels of glucose, liver enzymes, malondialdehyde (MDA), hepcidin, and iron deposition, alongside a reduction in insulin and glutathione (GSH) levels, accompanied by histopathological alterations in the liver and kidneys. The administration of Fumaria parviflora extract—particularly when combined with vitamin E—contributed to ameliorating these pathological changes, confirming its potential protective efficacy against diabetic complications.
