Today, Monday, the Department of Mathematics discussed a graduation research that dealt with the role of mathematics in protecting information and supporting investigative journalistic work, under the supervision of M.M. Hanan Salem.
The research was titled “Protecting Sources and Information: Encryption Applications in Investigative Journalism,” as it reviewed the most prominent encryption techniques used to protect journalistic data and sources, and the digital applications that journalists adopt to ensure the security and confidentiality of information while completing investigative reports.
The research took Nirig, the leading investigative organization in Iraq, as a model for the study, highlighting the most prominent digital challenges facing investigative journalists, and the technical mechanisms adopted to overcome them and enhance the security of communications and data during the stages of preparing a journalistic investigation.
