Speech of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kirkuk is one of the young colleges that was established in 2013-2014 under very difficult circumstances. However, it has come a long way in the scientific field to keep pace with the colleges of veterinary medicine in Iraqi universities that preceded it in serving the community and is still seeking to keep pace with scientific and technical development to raise the level of College outputs from veterinarians. The College of Veterinary Medicine is considered one of the colleges related to human health before animals, as it has a major role in serving both communities by providing safe and healthy food and preserving the health of the community by controlling many common and transmissible diseases, and providing veterinary medical consultations to preserve livestock in quantity and quality to support The national wealth of the country. After strengthening our determination and trusting in God Almighty, and with the continuous support of the presidency of our beloved university, we seek to continue raising the scientific level of the college by developing the teaching staff in teaching development programs, benefiting from reputable international and regional universities, and paying attention to the research aspect by equipping laboratories with the latest research equipment and holding conferences, seminars, courses, workshops, and seminars. Discussion in cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities from various state departments and coming up with recommendations that serve the community and advance livestock. As I am honored to hold the position of Dean of this college and scientific edifice to continue the gains of those who came before me, I am also honored to be surrounded by a group of colleagues who participate with sincere effort in shouldering the responsibility to preserve this edifice to be a platform for serving our dear homeland... the great Iraq.

Abstract:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kirkuk University was established in the academic year 2013-2014. The aim of its establishment was to prepare scientific cadres specialized in veterinary medicine to contribute to protecting animals from diseases, diagnosing diseases when they occur, and treating them in order to preserve and develop livestock and increase their production efficiency. These specialized cadres will have a future A role in serving the community in the areas of public health related to combating common diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans through food.

The college received its first batch of students in the academic year 2013-2014. It uses the English language in studying its curricula, and one of the characteristics of this college is that the first student in the first stage is transferred to the College of Pharmacy or Dentistry.

Four classes have graduated from it since its founding. During the five years of study, students receive various veterinary medical sciences that qualify them to obtain a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine and surgery. The college includes eight scientific branches, while the college’s goals revolve around graduating veterinarians capable of providing veterinary health services that serve public health. For humans and animals, developing livestock through advanced veterinary education, and providing scientific research that reaches the global level.

The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks to prepare specialized scientific personnel that contribute to protecting animals from diseases, diagnosing and treating diseases that afflict animals, preserving and developing livestock, increasing their production efficiency, and contributing to the fields of public health that are related to combating common diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans and in monitoring Foods of animal origin.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is committed to providing the community with a graduate capable of providing distinguished veterinary health services for the development of livestock through advanced veterinary education, providing global scientific research consistent with community values, and providing distinguished services to maintain public health and food safety.

2. Striving to achieve excellence in preparing students with solid scientific preparation that qualifies them to serve society in their field of specialization.

3. Conducting scientific research for students and updating it in line with contemporary scientific development.

4. Consolidating values and ideals among college students and members.

College objectives:

First: Achieving the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research by achieving the following main objectives: -

1. Providing distinguished education to prepare graduate veterinarians and qualify them scientifically, culturally and professionally to support the public, private and mixed sectors.

2. Adopting comprehensive principles for quality assurance that include internal and external evaluation in line with national and international quality standards.

3. Developing scientific research and postgraduate studies in the field of veterinary medicine and its various scientific branches, in terms of conducting applied scientific research to solve veterinary problems facing society.

4. Active participation with corresponding colleges and local, Arab, and international universities by holding lectures, courses, and seminars, and attending international conferences through cultural cooperation.

5. Continuous improvement of the academic, administrative and educational organization of the college.

6. Serving the community and professionals to ensure the quality and safety of animal products.

7. The veterinary medicine program must be distinguished, pioneering, and able to compete on the basis of internationally recognized standards and meet community requirements in the fields of livestock, poultry, and public health.

Third: The message fulfills the requirements of the college, the beneficiary entities, and the requirements of the labor market.

Fourth: The college has a detailed plan and database to build a comprehensive plan, and there are no documented plans for continuous improvement.

Veterinary Anatomy and Histology Branch:

The anatomy branch is considered one of the basic branches for teaching students of the first and second stages scientific subjects (anatomy, tissues and embryos). The main goal of the branch is to introduce students to the different parts of the body visually and microscopically, as well as learning about the process of emergence and growth of the different parts of the fetus’s body. Anatomy and histology are considered an introduction to the subjects. Scientific studies in the later stages, especially physiology, pathology, and other applied sciences such as surgery, obstetrics, and internal medicine.

Branch of Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmaceuticals:

The Physiology and Pharmaceuticals Branch forms part of the College of Veterinary Medicine and contributes effectively to teaching the specializations of Physiology, Pharmaceuticals, Toxicology, Biochemistry, and General Chemistry in the second stage, and providing students with the basic concepts and experience necessary to prepare them as veterinarians in the sciences of chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, pharmaceuticals, and toxicology.

Microbiology Branch:

A branch that provides third-year students with sufficient information on all specializations of microbiology, including pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and fungi that infect animals and humans, and recent developments in this field in order to be an introduction to applied sciences in subsequent years, including infectious diseases, poultry diseases, and common diseases, and to give students the necessary modern information in immunology. Microorganisms and how to combat them with antibiotics and vaccines, and activating the role of the veterinarian in working in the field of laboratories, public health, and veterinary vaccines.

Parasitology branch:

Parasitology, which is considered one of the basic sciences taught in the faculties of the Medical and Science Group... It includes parasitology (worms, protozoa, and insects), which is taught to third-year students in addition to providing scientific consultations to some relevant departments..

Diseases and diseases of poultry branch:

The disease branch is divided into:
1- Poultry Diseases Division. This division includes teachers in the field of poultry diseases who teach theoretical, practical, and clinical teaching to fourth and fifth year students.

2- Pathology Division: This division includes pathology teachers who teach the theoretical and practical subject of pathology to third-year students.

3- Fish Disease Division. This division includes teaching staff in fish breeding, nutrition, and diseases.

Public Health Branch:

The Veterinary Public Health Branch is one of the solid scientific edifices of the College of Veterinary Medicine to provide scientific services and graduate cadres who will have an effective role in monitoring quarries at border crossings with neighboring countries to control animal diseases and food entering the country and provide health and food security for the community, in addition to the participation of its professors in committees, studies and conferences. Seminars and scientific research related to diseases common between humans and animals and their treatment.

Branch of Veterinary Surgery and Obstetrics:

It is one of the important clinical branches in the College of Veterinary Medicine, which provides the community with veterinarians familiar with the sciences of veterinary surgery, reproductive diseases, and veterinary obstetrics, since this specialty constitutes half of the veterinarian’s duties, in addition to drug treatments.

Branch of Veterinary Internal and Preventive Medicine:

It is considered one of the most important scientific branches in the College of Veterinary Medicine as it is directly linked to qualifying the student to be a successful veterinarian by working on his teaching and informing him of all aspects related to learning methods of diagnosing diseases and prescribing the necessary treatments for pathological cases and how to deal with epidemics and diseases by learning the correct methods of control. They must follow preventive programs and periodic vaccinations.

College Laboratories Division:

Medical research laboratory:

1. Microbiology: It studies the types of microbial organisms (bacteria, viruses and fungi) that infect animals.

2. Parasites: Internal and external parasites that infect the animal’s body are studied.

3. Diseases: It studies affected tissues in different parts of the body.

4. General Chemistry: In the laboratory, elements and chemicals are detected and quantitative and qualitative analysis of those elements is carried out.

5. Immunity: It is studied in the laboratory how to activate immunity in the body against various diseases.

Multipurpose Laboratory No. (2)

The following subjects are studied:

1. Tissues: The natural tissues that make up the organs of the animal’s body are studied in the laboratory to identify them and benefit from them later in studying the same tissues in pathology.

2. Physiology: The normal functions of the various organs and systems of the animal’s body and the internal and external factors that affect those functions are studied in the laboratory.

3. Biochemistry: Medical biochemistry is studied in terms of the metabolism of all food components and the toxic pharmacological effect of substances on the activities of various body systems.

4. Animal nutrition: It studies methods of feeding animals and knowing the effect of food additives and all the requirements for proper nutrition of the animal.

Multipurpose Laboratory No. (3)

The following subjects are studied:

1. Pharmaceuticals subject, practical part.

3. Practical parts of other subjects when an additional laboratory is needed.

Computer lab:

The computer subject is taught in the practical part and everything related to computer management and operating systems. A brief overview of the Registration Division:
The Registration Division was established in the year 2013 with the first building block for the establishment of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Division of Continuing Education was established in the college in 2017. The Division of Continuing Education in the college contributes to providing its educational and training services according to programs, workshops, panels, and seminars in cooperation with the dean of the college, its assistants, and its scientific branches, in order to support all its categories of faculty members and employees with ongoing programs to achieve the goals of the division in terms of developing skills. 1 - Teamwork in harmony with all employees of the Legal Division in order to conduct the Division’s affairs in an orderly manner.

2 - Proposing ideas and solutions in order to apply legal texts in a manner consistent with the act, incident, or topic under consideration.

3 - Developing executable plans and programs within a legal and legitimate framework.

4 - Adaptation to the situation and the ability to work at specific times.

5 - Organizing legal contracts within the framework of legislation.

6 - Responding to legal consultations and developing appropriate solutions.

7 - Clarifying the legal texts and controls for all employees and students related to the discipline of students and employees while they are in the workplace or studying.

It carries out various financial activities, as it is responsible for organizing disbursement, financing, and salaries matters, settling various accounts, preparing the trial balance, completing the final accounts at the end of the financial year, and following up on the amounts of advances, committees, purchases, maintenance, petty cash, and all other advances, in addition to supervising the activity of the warehouse, which is responsible for organizing the process of entering and exiting goods. Purchases for the college and the Finance Division are linked to the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs and include the following units: -

Veterinary Clinic Division:

The Veterinary Clinic Division was opened in the college on 12/26/2012 in order to meet the educational and educational requirements of the college. The clinic consists of an examination and surgery room for small animals and an examination and surgery room for large animals in addition to the pharmacy. The veterinary clinic contains modern veterinary medical equipment such as ESG ultrasound.

Since its opening, the veterinary clinic at the College of Veterinary Medicine has received many surgical cases (about 48 cases) and college students were trained on how to diagnose and treat medical cases.

The Division audits all financial and administrative transactions and their compliance with the conditions approved by the Financial Supervision Bureau, and the Division is administratively linked to the Dean of the College.

The Agricultural Unit was established in the College of Veterinary Medicine since the beginning of the college’s founding. The most important tasks of the Agricultural Unit are:

Maintaining gardens in the college
Trim trees
Eel cultivation
Planting seedlings and flowers
Taking care of the animal farm in college
Providing the necessary fodder for animals
Paying attention to the cleanliness of gardens and animal pens
Growing green fodder for animals from jet, alfalfa and barley

3	Statistical system for human resources	A system for updating annual data and information for faculty and staff in the college is approved according to a special link to the electronic form submitted by the university presidency.	Human Resources Division

7	Annual performance evaluation system	An electronic system is adopted to evaluate the annual performance of college teachers and employees according to the link to the electronic form uploaded on the website of the Supervisory and Evaluation Service at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, whereby the members of all Iraqi universities are evaluated annually and these evaluations are approved by the university presidents electronically on the same site.
