The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kirkuk was founded in the 2013-2014 academic year, with the aim of preparing scientific cadres specialized in this field to contribute to protecting animals from diseases, diagnosing them in the event of infection with them, and then treating them to develop this wealth and increase their production efficiency, and contribute to public health areas by combating Common diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans, and all of the aforementioned are achieved through the curricula that are taught to students during their five years of study at the college and also through holding conferences, seminars and discussions to educate the different groups and institutions of society through their attendance.The college also aspires to provide postgraduate studies in the future to qualify scientific cadres specialized in veterinary medicine.

Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research: Graduates of the College of Veterinary Medicine who hold a bachelor’s degree or a postgraduate degree in basic or clinical sciences can work and teach in governmental and private colleges, whether the College of Veterinary Medicine or(Faculties of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, science, agriculture or in research centers).
Ministry of Agriculture: The Ministry of Agriculture provides a wide field of work for veterinarians to follow up the animal health of animals raised by farmers, poultry hatcheries and domestic animals, provide medicines and vaccines, and carry out campaigns to follow up on epidemiological cases in agricultural areas.Ministry of Health and Environment: The Ministry of Health and Environment, represented by veterinarians, contributes to preserving public health and following up on slaughterhouses and meat shops. This is done in cooperation with other state departments such as the veterinary department of the Ministry of Agriculture as well as the municipality.And the Ministry of the Interior, where the health of the slaughtered animals and their suitability for human consumption is confirmed, the healthy slaughter operations are controlled and abuses are prevented.
