College of Veterinary
Introduction :
The college of veterinary medicine was established in 2013.
It is one of the considerably developing veterinary clinical and research centers in Kirkuk. The academic curriculum offers a bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (i.e. B.V.M. & S). The study continues for duration of five academic years, accompanied by mandatory internship during summer of 4th &5th years. The five years program of study offers theoretical, practical and clinical experiences in various aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery. The instruction language is English.
Departments:
At the departmental level, the college consist of three departments:
1- Department of Biomedical Sciences
2- Department of Veterinary public health.
3- Department of Veterinary clinical sciences.
Vision:
The college of veterinary medicine at Kirkuk university aims to be one of the unique institution in veterinary field in Kirkuk area. It aspires to be globally recognized for educational and research programs.
Mission :
The mission of Kirkuk veterinary college is to provide an appropriate teaching style to ensure that each student achieves academic success, develops a lifelong learning, and become a responsible citizen in local and global community. This will be achieved through an enriched, continuously developed curriculum taught by qualified staff committed to motivating students for excellence in teaching and learning.
Objective:
The college of veterinary medicine aims to:
- Discover and apply the recent advances in veterinary medical field by students.
2- Create a modern, qualified, five-year professional curriculum that educates the students in the broad field of veterinary sciences and prepare them for critical and analytical thinking and for life -long learning.
3- Provide advanced clinical services through veterinary clinic of the college and teaching veterinary hospital.
4- Provide up to date facilities including; teaching and research laboratories to enhance the capabilities of the staff members.
5- Provide a school environment which reflect consistency, cooperation and positive safe caring atmosphere for students.
6- Challenge students individually to encourage quality performance, critical thinking, and problem solving skills by incorporating a variety of teaching styles.
Departments visions:
1- Department of biomedical sciences:
The vision of the department is to become a centre of excellence in providing qualitative knowledge of veterinary anatomy, histology, embryology, general chemistry, biochemistry, general pathology, systemic pathology, forensic medicine, pharmacology, microbiology.
2-Department of public health:
This department is mainly evolved in Para clinical sciences including animal and poultry managements, meat and milk hygiene, genetics , breeding , animal nutrition, biostatistics and computer sciences.
3- Department of clinical sciences:
This department is responsible for teaching the applicable clinical subjects to the students of final stages (fourth and fifth year). These subjects include medicine( 1 & 2), infectious diseases , clinical pathology , surgery (1&2),clinic( 1& 2).The department is also responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and surgical operations of different clinical cases of various animal species through the services carried out in diagnostic labs, college veterinary clinic and teaching veterinary hospital in Kirkuk.
