About Medicine College

The college is located at the city of Kirkuk/Kirkuk governorate next to Azadi teaching hospital. The college was newly founded in 2005 by Dr. Sabah ZANGNA in teamwork collaboration between the university of Kirkuk and Kirkuk health authority.

A section of the Azadi hospital was granted to the college and devised to be used for lecture halls and laboratories. Other colleges; science and agriculture, were supportive and dedicated some of their facilities to be used by our students as laboratory for anatomy, physics and chemistry.

In 2006 the foundation of the college was established on piece of land next to Azadi teaching hospital, the project was kindly funded by Kurdistan Regional government. The construction process of the main building was completed  by  2007,  that was followed by the building of the college amenities like students’ pray room and cafeteria.

The study process started in the new campus in 2008-2009 academic year and now the college has 11 academic branches (clinical and basic medicalsciences) and 9 administrative divisions.

The branches are; medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, microbiology, biochemistry, community medicine, pathology, physiology, anatomy, pediatric and pharmacology.

Our vision is to get international recognition for this newly developed medical school, to bring up graduates who are competent, safe, and keen on continuous professional development in order to meet community needs.

Mission:

Our mission is to graduate doctors who are able to:

  1. Recognize and work within the limits of their competence and ask for help when necessary.
  2. Ensure direct, precise supervision of their clinical work which they perform.
  3. Respect the decisions and rights of patients.
  4. Be aware that treatment should be based on clinical need and the effectiveness of the treatment options, and those decisions should be arrived at through assessment and discussion with the patient.
  5. Not unfairly discriminate against patients by allowing their personal views to affect adversely their professional relationship or the treatment they provide or arrange (this includes their views about patient’s age, marital or parental status, race, religion or beliefs, sex, sexual orientation and social or economic status) .
  6. Report any concerns they have about patient safety to the appropriate person.

Objectives:

  1. To graduate doctors who are skilled and are able to address health issues of Kirkuk community.
  2. Provide opportunities for wide range postgraduate studies.
  3. Conducting conferences for public awareness about the prevention of serious health issues
  4. To conduct researches targeted at solving problems of the community
  5. Provide health and medical consultation t the community.

6- Good medical ethics should characterize graduate. 

 7- The graduate should work as a member of a medical team in the service of the  

     patient.

8- The graduate should have a positive attitude towards teaching and bringing up            

    future generations.

- The door of the ancient fortress of Kirkuk inscribed with the Holy verse) and tell my Lord Zdni note (bold font Diwani).
- The oil tower symbolizes the extraction of natural wealth (oil) from the ground, which is characterized by the province of Kirkuk.
- The sun signifies the light of science in the city of black gold. - An open and engraved book under the title of the University of Kirkuk, in Arabic and English, the book symbolizes science.
- The university is one of the formations of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and History, which symbolizes the foundation year of the university in 2003 AD (1424 AH).
